Tom Bajo

Dr. Thomas M. Bajo died in a whitewater kayaking accident on July 11, 2017 near Red Lodge, Montana, one day before his 68th birthday. He worked as a critical-care physician at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix training many physicians in the Phoenix community during his 30 years of practice. He was known for going above and beyond to help his patients, medical students, residents, and fellows. Among those he trained was Robert Raschke, MD, who recalled Dr. Bajo training him in the mid-1980s when he started medical school. Dr. Raschke described Dr. Bajo as a physician and friend who cared more than anybody. "He gave us all a vision of commitment and caring that no one had ever really seen before," Dr. Raschke said.

Dr. Bajo graduated from the Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in 1974. He did an internship followed by an internal medicine residency at Henry Ford in Detroit; followed by a fellowship in infectious disease at the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Critical Care Fellowship at Cook County Hospital prior to his coming to Phoenix in 1983.

Dr. Bajo is survived by his daughters, Hannah Calvis and Alyssa Bajo his granddaughter, Ellie. He is also survived by Caryn Bajo, his former wife of 18 years and mother of his children.
